John Wesley, son of David Parr and Jane Duke Johnson, was born in 1860 at Newbury, Ontario. For the 1881 census, John was living with his younger sister Rachel, and older brother Anthony in Perth County, Ontario180.

Melissa May, daughter of Charles Henry Crowder and Elizabeth Ann Harris, was born 17 July 1879 at Thamesville, Ontario. They were married 16 November 1894 by a Methodist minister at Sarnia, Ontario181.  John and Melissa were granted citizenship to the United States in 1894182. They had five children: Earl Anthony, William E, Myrtle Marie, Hazel M. and Della.

They moved often, as noted by the government census. For 1900 they were at Port Huron, Michigan, 1910 at Flint, Michigan, 1920 at Marysville, Michigan and 1930 back to Port Huron. In each census John’s employment changed; he went from a labourer, to a gas worker, to a coal hand, to “none” for the 1930 census. Myrtle was working at the Brass Works for the 1920 census with daughter Hazel and as a laundress in 1930. The 1930 census page that listed John and Melissa, shows that only 12 of the 37 names listed were employed; the depression had hit183.

John died in 1935 and was buried in the Lakeside Cemetery at Port Huron, Ontario. Melissa died on 29 January 1944.
